It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our New “Improved” Mini Hockey evening. I am sure that both parents and kids alike will find the atmosphere that of a fun friendly and family environment. One that you would be happy to associate yourself with.
Starting Friday, 17 APRIL 2009
We at Durbanville realise that no club is sustainable without involving the community and investing in the youth. So with this in mind we started a mini hockey project for Primary school kids to offer good coaching, at a very affordable price and with decent facilities. In years to come we want to have produced Provincial and National players from this project. Something that is a definite possibility.
By having a “Junior” or “Mini hockey” section players also get used to the club environment and that usually awkward transition from school to club hockey is a much easier process. If you have to analyse the provincial u18 sides throughout the country, up to 90% of players have received coaching outside of their schools, either by playing for a club or being involved in a well established mini hockey project.

Durbanville is very proud to announce that we are the only club in the WP and one of only 3 clubs nationally to have a video analysis software programme. The programme allows us to analyse games as well as individual players.
How does this help our Mini Hockey?
Well… Included in your annual fee, ALL kids will receive a CD/ DVD with footage of themselves hitting / stopping / tackling. Not only will they be able to watch themselves on the video, but the video will also have an international player doing the same skill next to them. This will help kids to self-coach or mimic a top international player.
My goal as Chairman and as a coach is to look back at Western Province Hockey in ten years time and see how many players Durbanville have in the provincial set up. It is about time that Durbanville Hockey Club become a force to be reckoned with and this process will be starting with our mini hockey initiative.
Please feel free to offer any suggestions or comments. We have an open door policy and all information is valuable.
